At 20 Rachel joined a band performing covers influenced buy the modern Nashville music style, which to this day still emulates throughout her music. She played rhythm/acoustic guitar as part of the band, but wanted to play her own music and so the journey began…
Rachel fast gained a reputation as one of the finest singer songwriters in Wales, playing at a local open mike nights, and small intimate venues playing her own compositions. She continued to write in her own unique style and worked with some of the finest musicians in Wales including ‘Ian Lawrence and Mal Presit’ Playing rhythm guitar and backing vocals, recording an album ‘Mortal Contact’ in 2007.
Rachel now lives in the East Midlands and a chance meeting with producer Shirley Novak, meant that she could explore her sound further, taking her time to create her distinct style and the result is a 5 track EP. Shirley Novak knew instinctively what Rachel’s songs should sound like, drawing on her influences and abilities in her song writing and didn’t produce for production sake, but instead let the songs speak for themselves.
For eleven years Shirley was a professional singer/songwriter touring nationally and throughout Europe, and writing/recording four CD’s of original material. With her own unique brand of acoustic music, she played to audiences all over Europe numbering anything from 20 in an intimate setting, through to audiences of up to 13,000 at various festivals and on TV.
After nearly 20 years in Arts Development and Music, she now works as a freelance practitioner delivering music centered workshops, Arts Coordination in Schools, composes original royalty free music for a variety of applications, is a music producer and arranger working from her cellar studio in the East Midlands.
Rachel plays live, performing original material as well as covers of folk/country style songs. She plays guitar and is accompanied by Shirley on double bass and guitar which makes for an intimate setting for a journey of sensitive music and song.
Shirley Novak says, “Meeting Rachel Delicata has been a breath of fresh air! She has an ability to paint a picture through her song writing and a mutual appreciation of acoustic instruments such as brush kits, double bass and guitar gave us the basis of a simple sound that reflects Rachel’s music perfectly, she is a joy to work with…”.
Rachel Delicata says “Shirley’s passion and sensitively to music is a true gift. She knows instinctively what my songs should sound like. The work that Shirley and I have done together is the best I have very done in my life. I am proud of our music and proud that we are going to be sharing it”.
